When a sick newborn kitten was discovered alone, he was sent to the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS), where no one knew if he would live.
AHS went to the shelter to take the kitten in, but he appeared to require more than just human assistance.
As a result, the worried employees came up with a proposal.
Ember, a mother cat who had lately arrived with a litter of kittens, was introduced to the young kitten. Her kittens, on the other hand, were so unwell that they died one by one.
“She had lost all of her offspring, but not her motherly instinct,” Christina Hill, AHS’s head of marketing and communications, told The Dodo.
There was no doubt in Ember’s mind that the little, ailing kitten would be cherished.
“”They had an instant connection,” Hill added. “The bereaved mother rushed to the small cat, brushing him, loving him, and allowing him to nurse.”
The kitten was named Flame. And his adoptive mother, Ember, probably saved his life.
The couple has been placed in foster care. Within a month, they’ll be available for adoption, either together or separately.
“If they could be adopted together, that would be fantastic,” Hill said. “They’d go crazy over it!” And two cats are usually preferable to one.”
