Simon is a lovely cat that has discovered an odd approach to get rid of “pests” in his house.
He transforms them into visitors.
Benjamn Sagredo, Simon’s owner, began hearing unusual noises emanating from his kitchen in Punta Arenas, Chile, a few weeks ago. Sagredo wasn’t concerned because the sounds were faint and only happened once in a while.
“We had no idea what it was,” Sagredo said to The Dodo. “We’d seen Simon tinkering with something beneath an armchair before, but we didn’t think much of it.”
Simon had become aware of an intruder who was producing these noises, and he determined to make him feel at ease.
One morning, while about to step into the kitchen, Sagredo happened upon a surprising scene. There, drinking from his water bowl, was Simon. And next to him was a mouse.
The bighearted cat had apparently made friends with the animal he was presumably born to hunt.
“They looked closely acquainted. Simon was being affectionate,” Sagredo said. “I decided to record it. I thought no one would believe me.”
Here’s that moment on video:
Sagredo was taken aback. When Sagredo saw Simon’s kind attitude toward the mouse, he couldn’t help but agree.
“I pity the poor little mouse.” “I couldn’t bear the thought of injuring him,” Sagredo explained. “I gave him the moniker Chefcito.”
Simon’s kindness was infectious.
Chefcito was initially gathered and placed outside by Sagredo, just in case he wanted to flee. Chefcito, on the other hand, appeared to be at ease.
He should, too.
“He’s returned a few times,” Sagredo said. “We appreciate Simon’s acceptance of him.” He’s a social and loving cat. We’ll have to adopt Chefcito if he continues showing up.”
